Five teams from the Coordinative Body for prevention from natural disasters will on the ground everyday and will undertake preventive measures in the direction of preventing possible floods, as well as activities in the direction of eliminating the consequences from the unfavourable hydrological situation, announced today in Ohrid the Minister of Defence, Zoran Konjanovski. - I will lead one of the teams, the other four will be led by the minister of Agriculture, Ljupcho Dimoski, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mile Janakieski, the Director of the Crises Management Centre, Pande Lazarovski, as well as of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Shaban Saliu. Every day we will be on a different location as long as there is a need for us to coordinate the activities, noted Konjanovski. He added that the Government has engaged all institutions for dealing with the aftermath of the storm and announced that such activities will be carried out until it will be required, or until there is a danger of unpredictable situations. According to Minister Konjanovski, the setting of embankments along the sea front of Ohrid is being conducted on recommendation of professionals from the Ministry of Agriculture, hydro engineers from the Water Management Board, as well as professors from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, who assess that this part of the city is the most endangered, or that sand bags need to be placed on those locations in order to prevent water spill from the lake. Minister Konjanovski announced that after the undertaking of preventive measures which are under way in Ohrid, Struga and Peshtani, work will be done on the protection of the Collection System for the protection of the Ohrid lake. Members of the Coordinative Body will remain in Ohrid until there is a need, so that they can jointly help in the dealing with the aftermath of the storm in consultation with the local authorities. The level of the water in the Ohrid lake is unchanged several days now, or the watermark is 23 centimetres above the maximum permissible limit. According to the forecast from Hydro-meteorological Service, the following period will be partly cloudy, with expectations for heavy rain in the western part of Macedonia. It is expected that on Friday and Saturday there will be a decrease in the temperatures, and snow and rain is possible, while for Sunday once again heavy rain is forecasted. |
