- MIA

Skopje, 1 November

The professional soldiers are protesting in front of the Government for a second day now. Why wasn’t an agreement signed with the Ministry of Defence and them?

Being aware of this fact, as a minister I could have said that things are as they are and that the legal opportunities are as they are. I felt that it was good to sit down, to talk and to offer a mutually acceptable concept not just from a moral and human aspect, but also because, yet, we have to pay attention to the professional soldiers because a large part of their activities were directed towards improving the rating of the country. From one side we were faced with the requirements from the professional soldiers, which I personally believe are absurd and if we had accepted part of them we would not be compatible with NATO member states. Achieving the goal with a new drive

Minister, the year the Army of the Republic of Macedonia is celebrating its sixteenth birthday, is considered as en exceptionally significant year for many reasons, successful and dramatic. Successful, because we have received a recognition for meeting the NATO membership criteria, and dramatic, because of the events at Bucharest in the beginning of April. What is the direction of the Ministry of Defence in the upcoming period?

- The Republic of Macedonia and the Ministry of Defence were faced with certain challenges this year. Our common goal and strategic objective of the Government is the membership of the Republic of Macedonia in the common security system – NATO and the EU. Those priorities remain before us. In the upcoming period, we will continue on the path of reforms, a path which has already been paved in the Republic of Macedonia and a path without an alternative. What happened-happened. In a certain way, the will of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia was honoured because if we analyze the facts, over 90 percent of the citizens of our country would like to see the Republic of Macedonia as a member of the NATO alliance. On the other hand, the normative was not obeyed fully ...
