- MIASkopje, 1 November The professional soldiers are protesting in front of the Government for a second day now. Why wasn’t an agreement signed with the Ministry of Defence and them? The professional soldiers accepted to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Defence, which runs until the moment they reach 38 years of age. Being aware of this fact, as a minister I could have said that things are as they are and that the legal opportunities are as they are. I felt that it was good to sit down, to talk and to offer a mutually acceptable concept not just from a moral and human aspect, but also because, yet, we have to pay attention to the professional soldiers because a large part of their activities were directed towards improving the rating of the country. From one side we were faced with the requirements from the professional soldiers, which I personally believe are absurd and if we had accepted part of them we would not be compatible with NATO member states. The Crisis is slowing down the capital procurements for the ARM(07.08.2009) The Army trained for the 21st century needs sophisticated equipment, however this will wait until Macedonia comes out of the economic crisis. The Minister of Defence, Zoran Konjanovski says that by postponing the procurements, his ministry is safeguarding the Macedonian economy.
