CBSC projectCommencing 25 February 2009, Republic of Macedonia is holding the Chairmanship of the CBSC - (Defense/Military Support to WMD Counter-Proliferation, Border Security and Counter Terrorism) project as one of the projects within the SEDM initiative. Along with the enhancing of the regional cooperation policy of the countries members of the SEDM initiative, one of the main emphases of the CBSC project is placed on the fight against WMD proliferation, integrated border management and counter terrorism. Republic of Macedonia took over the chairmanship from Republic of Bulgaria and it will chair the CBSC project until 2010.
The ceremony of handing over the project Archives by the former chair was held in Skopje and it was officially completed in presence of the Deputy Defense Minister, Emil Dimitriev, Head of the Section for Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation in the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rossica Dimitrova and the Chairperson of the SEDM-CC and PMSC, Radica A. Gareva, PhD. Up to now, eleven (11) meetings of the CBSC WG were held. Two of them in Bucharest, Romania, two in Athens, Greece, four in Zagreb, Croatia, two in Sofia and one in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Since the establishment of the CBSC WG, the members of the WG participated in many activities including a number of relevant seminars and conferences organized by SEDM Nations, and they push forward measures to improve transparency and visibility of the WG by opening for cooperation with other organizations and processes. 13th CBSC Working Group (WG) Meeting, 16-18 November 2009, SkopjeThe 13th CBSC Working Group (WG) Meeting was held 16-18 November 2009, in Skopje. The CBSC Working Group meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Defence, H.E. Emil DIMITRIEV accompanied by the former SEDM Chairperson Ms. Radica A. Gareva, PhD. The Deputy Minister of Defense welcomed the participants and underlined the significance of the CBSC Project within the SEDM Process as well as its role in the regional security and stability. The Deputy Minister had also underlined that establishing a SEDM Sharing Information System will enhance the cooperation between the SEDM countries on dealing with the global security challenges. CBSC Chairmanship has presented the realized activities in accordance with the already established 6 recommended steps for the future work of the CBSC Project
CBSC Nations discussed on the CBSC Chairing nation proposal, of establishing NCC IBM-Skopje as a SEDM Sharing information system, which is approved by some nations, with a conclusion that nations will present their national position on the subject issue. CBSC Nations presented an update concerning their national CBSC related issues, national approach in dealing with combating terrorism, national legal aspects and the future events related with CBSC. CBSC participants visited the International police cooperation department in the Ministry of Interior, where they were presented the operational capability of the department and the coordination with international security organizations (Interpol, Europol, and SECI). |
